Tartan is available in a number of different weights from 8 oz to 21 oz. and has various uses. 10 oz tartan is considered light weight and is used primarily for womens dresses. It also will make a fine Great Kilt. We don't recommend this weight for mens kilts. 13 oz. is medium weight kilting tartan and the one most often used for mens kilts. If you don't mind the heavier weight, it can be used for a Great Kilt. 16 oz is heavy weight. It pleats well and is preferred by some. If you're looking for less expensive wool blends or wools, you can click on our Angus Wools list on the home page . These are only available as Great Kilts or to be made into fair quality Victorian era kilts and are not sold as yardage.
As with kilts there is a wide range of prices depending on weight and name of tartan selected. Contact us and we'll quote you an exact price.
Normal delivery time is approximately three to four weeks to your door. This is somewhat variable depending on the time of year and factors related to the particular mill involved. We can provide a pretty solid estimate at the time of your purchase.
If you require a tartan that has to be custom milled, we require a 10-15 yard minimum.
